In an interview with Olympic.kz, 2019 World silver medalist Elizabet Tursynbaeva announced that she will not take part in the 2020-2021 ISU Grand Prix series.

After a twelfth place finish at the 2018 Winter Olympics and an eleventh place finish at the 2018 World Championships, the Kazakh figure skater changed training locations to Eteri Tutberidze’s Khrustalny and enjoyed a successful 2018-2019 season. Winning silver medals at the 2019 Four Continents Championship and the 2019 Winter Universiade, Tursynbaeva became the first ladies’ skater to land a quad at the 2019 World Championship en route to another silver medal behind Olympic gold medalist Alina Zagitova.

However, the athlete struggled with a series of injuries last season and had to withdraw from a number of competitions. Now student of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Tursynbaeva says that she is back to training but will skip the ISU Grand Prix series.

Interview with Elizabet Tursynbaeva by Olympic.kz and translation to English:

“The first trainings are going well, at their own pace.

There will be no new programs.

As far as I know, the Grand Prix will be held in a national format and the scores from the competitions will not go to the rating. I will not participate in the Grand Prix.

I really like my studies. A lot of new information, a lot of homework. So far I have time for everything” – said Elizabet.
