
Alexander Plushenko, son of two-time Olympic gold medalist Evgeny Plushenko, took part in the Sports and Education Center’s “Sambo-70” 50th anniversary competition and earned a gold medal.
The 7-year-old participated in the first youth category with four other boys. Skating to music from the Pirates of the Caribbean, the young athlete attempted a double lutz and axel combination, a double flip, a double salchow and double loop combination, and an axel at the end. Along with good artistry, which “Gnome” (Alexander Plushenko’s nickname) has picked up having performed with his father at large shows before, the young Plushenko received a score of 36.57 points.
Pavel Orlov took second place with 32.13 points and Elisey Syrovatsky earned third place with the score of 31.75 points. Ilya Monopyants was fourth and Gleb Terekhov was fifth. All of the other four boys in the category represented Sambo-70, from the Konek Tchaikovskaya branch in Strogino – where this competition took place.

After his son’s victory, Plushenko showed joy and also congratulated Sambo-70 on their anniversary. He thanked Elena Tchaikovskaia – who is the head of the Konek Tchaikovskaya branch – for the invitation.
