2020 European Figure Skating champion Dmitri Aliev is recovering from a lower back injury and is expecting to participate in the third stage of the Cup of Russia series, in Sochi from October 23 to 27.
The skater’s coach Evgeni Rukavicin told TASS that Aliev underwent an examination and treatment in Germany, forcing him to miss the Russian national team test skates last month, but is hopeful to be ready for the third stage of the Cup of Russia competition.
Aliev will return to his 2017-2018 short program Masquerade Waltz, which led him to a silver medal at the 2018 European Championship and held fifth place at the 2018 Winter Olympics before the free skate.
Currently, the third stage of the Cup of Russia series is set to feature two other successful Russian male skaters: former World Championship bronze medalist and two-time Russian National champion Mikhail Kolyada, and last season’s World Junior champion Andrei Mozalev.
