Italian figure skater Matteo Rizzo announced on social media that he will no longer be training with longtime coach Franca Bianconi.

22-year-old Rizzo had been working with Bianconi since he was six years old. With the coach’s guidance, Rizzo has won a gold medal at the 2019 Winter Universiade, a bronze medal at the 2019 European Championship, and was the bronze medalist at the 2018 World Junior Championship.

Last season Rizzo won the Shanghai Trophy against strong competitors, such as Alexander Samarin and Jin Boyang; however, he started this season with a fifth place finish at the Nebelhorn Trophy, after having been third after the short program.

He continues to be coached by his father, Valter Rizzo.

Instagram post by Matteo Rizzo and translation to English:

Unfortunately, certain situations cannot begin and end in the same place.
My working relationship with Franca Bianconi, whom I thank enormously for the work done together and for the years spent together, has come to an end.
In addition, I also thank the Icelab Sports Society for hosting me in its structure as an athlete of the Fiamme Azzurre Sports Group.

The work will continue as never before, and the goals will remain the same. Always give your best, and sometimes to do it you need to go a step further.

See you soon, Matteo.
