Leader after the short program in the junior ladies’ event at the Cup of Russia series, Elizaveta Berestovskaya started her free skate with a quad-double combination – having landed the quad toe loop, she fell on the double toe loop. She, again, fell on a subsequent quad toe loop. Having a double-digit lead over third position after the first program, the young skater from CSKA received a total score of 202.42 points and remained first.
Sofia Muravyeva, from Evgeny Plushenko’s academy, had a great performance in the short program and was second going into the free skate with a twelve-point lead over third place. She opened her second performance with a triple Salchow and then a strong triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination. A mistake on a spin near the halfway point of the program cost her points but great jumps helped Muravyeva earn a total amount of 199.10 points. She stayed second.
Khrustalny’s Maria Zakharova was fourth after the short program – about three points behind third place and fifteen points behind the top two. She opened her free skate with a double axel. Skating to music from Romeo and Juliet, she delivered a clean performance with no falls and great artistry. Second at the first stage in Syzran, 13-year-old Zakharova earned a total score of 186.68 points and improved to third overall.
