The official Twitter account of the Japanese stage of the ISU Grand Prix series – NHK Trophy – announced that South Korean figure skater You Young has been added to the competition.
Tweet by the official NHK Trophy account:
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Grand Prix series will be held in a non-traditional, national format – the participants are local skaters or foreigners who train within the area of the competition’s location. Young is now the only non-Japanese participant expected to take part in this year’s NHK Trophy.
The 16-year-old made her senior level debut last season, winning a silver medal at the Four Continents Championship and a bronze medal at her debut Grand Prix event in Canada – only behind Alexandra Trusova and, both times, Rika Kihira. Already a four-time National champion, Young is the eleventh lady to successfully land a triple axel in an international competition, and also won a gold medal at the Youth Olympics in January of this year – ahead of Russia’s Ksenia Sinitsyna and Anna Frolova.
