Russian news agency TASS was informed by the general director of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Alexander Kogan, that ice dance couples Alexandre Stepanova & Ivan Bukin and Sofya Shevchenko & Igor Eremenko will miss the fourth stage of the Cup of Russia series in Kazan.
One of the couples’ coaches fell ill with a viral respiratory infection and the athletes remain in self-isolation. Kogan said, “Stepanova and Bukin will miss the upcoming stage of the Cup of Russia in Kazan due to the fact that one of the team’s coaches fell ill with ARVI. Therefore, the athletes of this group – Stepanova and Bukin, as well as Shevchenko and Eremenko are still in self-isolation.”
18-year-old Shevchenko and 23-year-old Eremenko were third at the first stage of the Cup series in Syzran; four-time European Championship medalists Stepanova and Bukin were expected to make their season’s debut. Both couples are coached by Alexander Svinin and Irina Zhuk in Moscow, and are next scheduled to take part in the the Russian stage of the ISU Grand Prix series – the Rostelecom Cup – from November 20 to 22.
