Skoptsova and Aleshin win ice dance event in Kazan

2018 World Junior champions Anastasia Skoptsova and Kirill Aleshin won the ice dance event at the fourth stage of the Cup of Russia series in Kazan.

Leaders after the rhythm dance by about sixteen points over the closest competitors, 20-year-old Skoptsova and 23-year-old Aleshin performed their free dance program to music from the film Fifty Shades of Grey. A much higher level performance compared to the other couples in this event, Skoptsova and Aleshin received a total competition score of 199.56 points in their season’s debut to become the fourth different winners of the ice dance category after four events of the Cup of Russia series.

Second after the rhythm dance, Svetlana Lizunova and Alexander Bakhov were fourth overall at the first stage of the Cup of Russia series in Syzran – this time they earned a podium position. Skating to music from Mozart, l’opéra rock (Mozart, the rock opera), the couple received a total score of 165.71 points – nearly a twenty-point improvement from 146.79 points in Syzran.

Bronze medalists at the third stage of the Cup of Russia series in Sochi, 19-year-old Yulia Tultseva and 20-year-old Anatoliy Belovodchenko skated to a remix of Rihanna’s song Umbrella, by The Baseballs. Eleventh at Russian Nationals last season, the young couple demonstrated many improvements and received a total competition result of 146.42 points to win bronze medals again.

In fifth place overall at the first stage of the Cup of Russia series in Syzran, Vlada Pavlenina and Alexander Alexanyan earned a total score of 135.58 points in Kazan. They remained fourth, where they were after their first performance in the competition. Fifth after the rhythm dance, Elizaveta Kirillova and Mark Chegodaev performed their free dance to the song Hey You by Pink Floyd and received a total competition score of 128.56 points.

Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin, as well as Sofia Shevchenko and Igor Eremenko, withdrew from the event prior to the start of the competition because they had to self-isolate after an illness in their coaching staff.
