Russian media outlet RIA Novosti reports that the pair of Alina Pepeleva and Roman Pleshkov will not take part in the Russian stage of the ISU Grand Prix series this weekend.
According to their coach Vladislav Zhovnirski, another one of the couple’s coaches – Filip Tarasov – tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from the fourth stage of the Cup of Russia series in Kazan almost two weeks ago. Pepeleva was also suspected of having contracted COVID-19; however, both hers and Pleshkov’s tests showed a negative result. The pair still did not train over the last few days.
The Rostelecom Cup starts this Friday in Moscow and the General Director of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Alexander Kogan, said “We have not yet received the papers for their withdrawal. If we get them, then no one will replace them, because everything is already closed. There are ISU regulations, and no one can really replace them.”
