Maxim Trankov announced that his skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov will miss the fifth stage of the Cup of Russia series this upcoming weekend due to an illness.
25-year-old Tarasova got sick with pneumonia after the fourth stage of the Cup of Russia series in Kazan, where the couple won the silver medals in a tough competition ahead of reigning European champions Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii.
“Tarasova and Morozov will miss the fifth stage of the Cup of Russia due to an illness. After the stage in Kazan, Evgenia got sick with pneumonia. Today (note – Monday) they are returning to training,” said Trankov.
Silver medalists at the team event at the 2018 Winter Olympics, Tarasova and Morozov were initially assigned to the first two stages of the Cup of Russia series but had to withdraw due to Morozov contracting COVID-19. Afterwards, the couple withdrew from the ISU Grand Prix series to focus solely on the Russian Cup series; however, now, they will be unable to participate in the final stage.
The final stage of the Cup series will take place at the Megasport Sports Palace in Moscow from December 5 to 8. The Russian National Figure Skating Championship will take place at the end of December in Chelyabinsk.
