The International Skating Union (ISU) published a press release announcing the cancellation of the 2021 European Figure Skating Championships, originally scheduled to take part from January 25 to 31 in Zagreb, Croatia.
The ISU Council decided to cancel the event because of “the worsening worldwide COVID-19 pandemic situation and the consequent increasing risks for organizers and participants.”
Previously, the European Championships were not held due to World War 2 from 1940 to 1946. The event is scheduled to take place in 2022 in Tallinn, Estonia.
Additionally, the ISU Grand Prix Final of Figure Skating, which had already been postponed from its originally scheduled date of December 10 to 13 in Beijing, China, has now been definitely cancelled. The event is being cancelled for the first time ever.
