Winners of the ice dance event at the Russian Championships this season, Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin have decided not to take part in the final of the Cup of Russia series later this month.
The couple’s coach Irina Zhuk informed Russian news agency TASS that Stepanova and Bukin have already qualified to perform at the World Championships and will continue preparing for that competition.
This season, the Figure Skating Federation of Russia decided to change the selection process that they normally use for the World Championships and only the gold medalists at the national championships qualified to represent their country in Sweden this upcoming March. The remaining participants will have to qualify at the Cup of Russia Final.
Multiple-time medalists on the international stage Stepanova and Bukin secured their spot with a gold medal performance in Chelyabinsk this past December.
