
According to the International Skating Union (ISU) website, the Challenger Series event Nepela Memorial in Bratislava, Slovakia will not take place this season.
The competition was originally scheduled to be held from September 30 to October 2. A press release regarding the decision to not hold the event has not yet been released.
Last season, the Slovak Figure Skating Association cancelled the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
An ISU Challenger Series event since the 2014-2015 season, the competition has seen multiple Olympic medalists and World champions in recent years. Last held in 2019, the event then saw the senior level debut of Alexandra Trusova who won the women’s discipline. Eventual European champion Dmitri Aliev won the men’s discipline; future World champions Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov won the ice dance event. The pair’s discipline has not been held since 2018 when Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc took the victory.
