Alysa Liu leads after short program at Cranberry Cup International

Two-time United States national champion Alysa Liu took the lead of the women’s event after the short program at the Cranberry Cup International – the first international figure skating competition of the 2021-2022 season. The 16-year-old earned a total score of 71.42 points in her first international senior level competition and sits more than four points ahead of compatriot Mariah Bell.

Liu opened her routine with a double axel and then a triple flip. She landed a triple Lutz-triple toe loop for her combination attempt.

25-year-old Mariah Bell began her short program performance with a double axel but received a quarter under rotation on her following triple flip-triple toe loop combination. She successfully completed a triple Lutz and earned a score of 67.07 points.

Originally from the state of Illinois, 21-year-old Paige Rydberg began her short program with a triple flip. She also landed a double axel and a triple toe loop-triple toe loop combination, and received a score of 63.75 points.


The United States’ Vincent Zhou was the top men’s competitors on Saturday. He received a total score of 102.53 points for his short program performance and topped the rankings by over twenty four points.

Russia’s Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov are the hands down favorites of the pairs’ event and are currently in first place after the short program with a score of 75.97 points. They have more than a six-point lead ahead of reigning United States national champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier.

Tina Garabedian and Simon Proulx-Senecal of Armenia lead the ice dance discipline with a score of 68.80 points.
