Two-time United States national champion Alysa Liu celebrated her first win in an international senior level competition this weekend – she was the best in both the short program and the free skate, and took the gold medal in Norwood, Massachusetts.

The 16-year-old opened her second performance at the 2021 Cranberry Cup International with a triple axel; however, it was unsuccessful and the judges downgraded it. She did successfully complete a triple Lutz and a triple loop before a double axel-Euler-triple Salchow combination. Liu also landed a triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination, a triple flip-double toe loop combination, and a triple flip. She earned a score of 134.32 points for the performance and her total result for the competition was 205.74 points.

Four-time South Korean national champion Young You was fifth after the short program but rose to second place overall after her free skate performance. She began her routine with a fall on a triple axel attempt but then landed a triple axel-double toe loop combination. The triple axel was underrotated but the 17-year-old was the only figure skater to complete an Ultra-C element. You also landed a triple loop, a double axel, a triple Lutz-Euler-triple Salchow combination, and a triple flip-double toe loop combination. She had a second fall on a downgraded triple Lutz. The 2020 Youth Olympic gold medalist earned a score of 123.14 points for the free skate and received a total competition score of 182.88 points.

Mariah Bell had an uncharacteristically shaky performance. The 25-year-old was second after the short program and began her free skate with a triple flip. She had issued on the triple loop and triple Salchow but successfully completed a double axel. After a triple Lutz-double toe loop combination, Bell could not complete another combination and settled with a repeated triple flip and then finished her jumping elements with a triple Lutz. She received a total score of 179.42 points for the two performances this weekend.
