At the International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series competition in Finland, the 2021 Finlandia Trophy, three-time Russian national champions Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov took the lead after the short program over reigning World champions, compatriots Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov.

Tarasova and Morozov began their performance with a side-by-side triple toe loop and received positive grades of execution for all of their technical elements – including a triple twist lift and a triple loop throw. Winners of the Cranberry Cup International in August and the first stage of the Cup of Russia series in September, the Russian pair continued a consistent start to the 2021-2022 Olympic season and received a score of 78.33 points for their presentation.

Mishina and Galliamov made their season’s debut today. After a successful triple twist lift and a good triple flip throw, Mishina fell on the pair’s side-by-side triple Salchow attempt. The 2021 World champions remain in strong contention to rebound in the free skate with a clean skate; Mishina and Galliamov received a score of 73.76 points for their short program performance and are currently in second place.

In their debut season as a pair, Vanessa James and Eric Radford successful began their outing in Finland. Only training the top Russian representatives, the Canadians successfully landed their side-by-side triple Salchows and James avoided falling on the triple flip throw. The duo is in third position after the opening day of the event with a score of 67.55 points.
