The Japan Skating Federation has announced that two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time World champion Yuzuru Hanyu will miss the Rostelecom Cup – the Russian stage of the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix series.

Hanyu was previously expected to participate at the NHK Trophy in Japan last week but was forced to withdraw due to a right ankle injury on November 4.

The Japanese figure skater was quoted by the federation stating, “Thank you very much for your support. I try my best to reply to all your messages. Depending on the movement, I still feel pain but in everyday life it does not bother me. I’m not ready to perform yet but I’m still moving forward. Thank you for your continued support. I’ll do my best.”

The Japan Championships will begin on December 23 in Saitama – the men’s short program will be held on December 24 and the free skate on December 26.
