This week, Poland hosts the seventh competition of this season’s International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series – the 2021 Warsaw Cup – and on the second day, two sets of medals were awarded. Also, the ice dance event picked up to a fascinating start, and the women’s event – led by Maiia Khromykh – will be decided tomorrow.

Skating to a mixture of Boom Boom Pow by The Black Eyed Peas and Bom Bidi Bom from the film Fifty Shades Darker, Russian ice dance couple Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin continued a successful senior level debut this season with an 81.30-point rhythm dance performance at the Warsaw Cup. Silver medalists at September’s U.S. International Classic and in the top five at both the Skate Canada International last month and the Cup of Austria last week, 18-year-old Davis and 22-year-old Smolkin improved their career best score by almost eight points and lead their closest competitors by just under six points.

Japanese ice dancers Kana Muramoto and 2010 Olympic bronze medalist, in the men’s event, Daisuke Takahashi presented a strong rhythm dance performance to traditional Japanese music. The second-year team achieved a new career best rhythm dance score of 75.87 points – improving from 70.74 points at the NHK Trophy last week, which earned them sixth place.

Third-year team of Caroline Green and Michael Parsons similarly improved their best career score. Skating to a combination of My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) by En Vogue and Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson, the Americans received a score of 75.35 points.
