2018 World bronze medalist and three-time Russian national champion Mikhail Kolyada will bring back last season’s free skate program moving forward – skating to Nureyev, from The White Crow, by Ilan Eshkeri and performed by Lisa Batiashvili. The program is choreographed by Ilia Averbukh.
Kolyada’s coach Alexei Mishin told Russia’s Match TV, “When we started working on the free skate program Schindler’s List, I was not absolutely sure that this program would be better than the The White Crow. And the idea of a return [to the The White Crow] was with me. But I understood perfectly well that if we continued to perform The White Crow without interruption since August, it would soon turn from a magnificent white crow into a worn, annoying crow.”
Last season’s free skate program by Kolyada became a fan favorite and many hoped to see it at the 2022 Winter Olympics. This season, the 26-year-old figure skater has participated in three competitions and won silver medals at all of them – the Finlandia Trophy, the Grand Prix of Italy, and the Rostelecom Cup. At the Grand Prix of Italy in early November, Kolyada received a new personal best free skate score of 181.25 points.
