Ekaterina Kurakova takes first place at Four Nationals Championships, wins fourth consecutive Polish national title

Held in Spisska Nova Ves, in Slovakia, the national champions of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia were determined at the 2022 Four Nationals Championships this weekend. At the competition, the highest placing figure skaters from each country were named champions of their respective countries.

19-year-old Polish representative Ekaterina Kurakova was victorious at the Four Nationals competition for the fourth consecutive season – consequently, she claimed her fourth straight Polish national title.

Skating to music by Charlie Chaplin, Kurakova began her free skate performance with a triple Lutz and then a triple Lutz-Euler-triple flip combination. She later completed a triple toe loop, a triple loop, a triple Salchow-double axel in a sequence, a triple loop-double toe loop combination, and a double axel. Kurakova received a score of 130.74 points for her presentation and earned a total competition score of 190.06 points.

Czech figure skater Eliska Brezinova celebrated her ninth career national title as she took second place overall at the competition. The 25-year-old, younger sister of soon-to-be-four-time Olympian Michal Brezina, has already been named as a participant at the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. She received a score of 110.27 points for her free skate performance and earned a total competition result of 168.83 points.

18-year-old Hungarian figure skater Julia Lang claimed her second consecutive national title. Fifth after the short program, Lang received the second highest free skate score in the competition – 113.21 points – and earned a total competition score of 168.07 points for the bronze medal at Four Nationals.

Slovakia’s Ema Doboszova finished fifth overall but celebrated her second Slovakian national title – finishing 0.31 points ahead of compatriot Alexandra Michaela Filcova in the head-to-head battle for the championship.
