The French Federation of Ice Sports announced on Thursday that 2018 Olympic silver medalists and four-time World champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron will not take part at the European Championships next week.

Five-time European champions Papadakis and Cizeron have decided not to travel to Tallinn in order to avoid contracting COVID-19 before the 2022 Winter Olympics next month.

The 2022 European Figure Skating Championships will take place in Tallinn, Estonia from January 10 to 16. Less than a month later, the 2022 Winter Olympics begin in Beijing, China – taking place from February 4 to 20 – with the ice dance discipline being held on February 12 and 14.
