On Sunday morning, U.S. Figure Skating announced the athletes who will participate in the pairs’ discipline at the 2022 Winter Olympics this month – Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier, as well as Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy LeDuc.
2021 U.S. national champions Knierim and Frazier had to withdraw from the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championships because of a positive COVID-19 test result but were chosen by the selection committee due to consistent results. Knierim participated at the 2018 Winter Olympics with her husband, Chris, and placed fifteenth; Frazier will be making his Olympics debut.
Cain-Gribble and LeDuc have been enjoying a great season with bronze medals at two International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series events and a bronze medal at Skate Canada where they only lost to the top Chinese and a Russian pair. They celebrated their second national title last night.
Jessica Calalang and Brian Johnson, Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov, Emily Chan and Spencer Howe were named as alternates.
Selections for the 2022 Four Continents Championships are Emily Chan and Spencer Howe, Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov, as well as Katie McBeath and Nathan Bartholomay.
